Re: your comment on my talk page:
- Hey, I just corrected the birth year for Jeff Yagher, only for you to decide to revert it, without even bothing to check! While I bet Mr. Yagher would like to know that he's a year younger than he actually is, log onto www.privateeye.com and look up Yagher in California -- he was born in 1961 NOT 1962!
- And you guys wonder why no researcher takes Wiki seriously! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.138.130.94 (talk • contribs).
Thankyou for pointing this out to me. As you will see in the five pillars of Wikipedia, verifiability is paramount. If you would just cite a reference for your change within the article, I would happily leave it. However, please assume good faith when communicating with other wikipedians. I was patrolling recent changes for vandalism at the time and reviewing around 15 edits a minute. Many researchers take Wikipedia seriously; they do their best to follow our basic guidelines and we accept that. However, many people abuse the privelage of being able to edit content and people like me have to constantly fix their edits.
As a result, there is a lot of work going around and we cannot verify each and every statement. When you saw without even bothering to check, the issue is not that I do not bother to check, it is that I do not have time to check. If I stop vandal fighting for a moment, more vandalism will slip through the network of vandal fighters and one of these researchers you speak of could see some rather disturbing content on a relatively normal article. Having just spent about 10 minutes writing this response, another 120 edits have not been reviewed.
I won't hold it against you, but please be aware that people like me will simply follow policy after seeing an edit and revert based on our judgement. If you feel we have made a mistake, please tell us kindly and we will remember for next time. But always assume good faith and remain civil, or your Wikipedia experience may not be what you expect it to be. --Draicone (talk) 00:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
