Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the hard work of others. Thanks. --Kbh3rdtalk 20:19, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy: There is no excuse for personal attacks on other contributors. Do not make them. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that you may be blocked for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thanks, Also, as to your comment, my sexual orientation is none of your business and if you must focus on that, then I strongly advise you that homophobia is not tolerated on Wikipedia. That is not a way to get attention on this site, that's a way to get yourself blocked/banned. So smarten up. Personal attacks in any form are not tolerated. If you have something mature to say to me, my talk page is the place for it. —

This is your last warning. If you continue to make personal attacks, you may be blocked for disruption. tv316 02:17, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Calling people 'fags' is not proper etiquette on this website. Please see the links: WP:CIVIL, WP:NPA and WP:EQ. These are not just guidelines, this is site policy. Stop personally attacking me or you may be blocked for incivility I don't know you and I don't know what your problem is with me but deal with it in a mature manner or you may be blocked. Last warning. —

You have now been reported to your Internet provider for flagrant disregard for their Terms of Use, specifically section 5.
5. Rules and Conduct. In addition to any Additional Rules and in consideration of the availability and your use of the Services, you agree not to:

You have been blocked from editing for posting potentially defamatory claims on Wikipedia. Wikipedia does not tolerate the posting of such claims on its website and takes such posting seriously. All defamation posted in edit summaries is removed from the Wikipedia website and deleted from records and archives. Those who post it are immediately banned from the site and may be reported to their service provider. If a computer in an educational establishment was used to post that claim then that establishment may be informed. You are reminded that defamation is an offence in law.
Under Section 230 of the United States Communications Decency Act, which governs Wikipedia, Wikipedia cannot be sued for the defamation you post. But YOU can be. Your service provider may be able to trace your edits back to you. The person you defamed could get a court order to require that the server release your name, and then sue you personally for defamation in the courts.
Remember: You put yourself at serious risk of a prosecution under the laws of defamation for any defamation you deliberately post.

Actually, to reply to User:70.53.109.79's comment/vandalism, the laws of the United States certainly do apply here, as this is an American site. Check out the WHOIS information for this website and you will see that this is an American site, and subject to American laws. Those who use this site agree to abide by said laws, regardless of their nationality. Also, there is no excuse to insult other users just because your understanding of law is lacking. Do not make such attacks. See WP:NPA. Do not use this service to attack others. —

[edit] You're wrong.
US law would not apply in this case, nathanr. You're obviously not a lawyer, so don't pretend that you are. You don't even play one on TV. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.50.55.206 (talk • contribs) 17:28, 26 March 2006 (UTC).
Actually, I'm right (and it's a small n in nathanr; but my username here is nathanrdotcom, not nathanr). And you need to sign your messages on talk pages with ~~~~.
The server in which Wikipedia is housed is in the United States. Anything that happens through that server, they have to answer to the laws of the country in which the server is hosted. Nobody is above the law for harassing or threatening comments they post.
Think about it. If US laws didn't apply, why did the Wikipedia admins decide to block the IP from further vandalizing my user page? Stop and think for a minute.
I don't even have to be a lawyer to know this. It would be like if someone posted a harassing comment on my site, which is hosted in Canada, they would be subject to Canadian laws. They would be also subject to the laws of the country in which their Internet provider is hosted.
Take for example (and this has happened before, but not to the filing reports with the police stage):
- anon person from the United States repeatedly uses my contact form (on my site which is hosted in Canada) to harass me.
In such a case, the person's IP address is appended to the end of the message.
Here's what I can do:
- I can send the messages back to his ISP as harassment (most reputable ISP's have acceptable usage policies that specifically spell out: You cannot use this service for harassment. Your ISP has one as well and I've posted it above).
- If it keeps up and it gets particularly harassing and threatening, I can file criminal charges through my local police. The court can then order the ISP to release the person's name, address, phone number and any information I need to make criminal charges.
- Harassment charges are laid, the person is held responsible for what he types.
Using the Internet to harass someone does not make you above the law. You are responsible for everything you type on the Internet as though you've said it in real life.

I've had a chat with Wikipedia admins and even they agree with me. Do I need to have a talk with Jimbo himself before you'll believe me?
Look, I don't even know you. Honestly, what's your problem with me? Let's discuss it like two rational adults. Remember WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA (which are policies of this site) and stop being so condescending. I will no longer respond to negative comments on this talk page. If you refuse to act like an adult (if you even are an adult), that'll be your problem, and the Wikipedia admins will deal with you themselves (via a few warnings and eventually a block). There is no excuse for attacking someone on Wikipedia. Do not make such attacks. At the very least, let me know why you are attacking me in the first place. I think I am owed that much at least.
I didn't get to be 29 years old and using the net for 11 years without knowing a little something about how it works.
You may direct all (mature, adult, rational) comments on this issue to my talk page. You may also let me know exactly what issue you have with me, and we can work to resolve it like rational adults. I would like to resolve this in any way possible, even if I have to involve a third-party as mediator. I would honestly like to know what I may have (or not have) done to offend you. —
