[edit] Cassie Bernall Controversy
Craig Scott was sitting at a table about 5 feet from Cassie Bernall's, that was covered by another table, three chairs, and he was facing another direction; basically, he was nowhere near her. Emily Wyant was sitting with Bernall in the library and states she never said yes, and the exchange never happened. Bree Psaquale was sitting across from Cassie Bernall and saw her get shot, and she says that the exchange never took place. Kasey Ruegsegger was shot underneath the computer desk right across from the desk under where Cassie and Emily were hiding, she saw Cassie Bernall get shot without the exchange occuring. In the official investigation, Craig Scott mentioned he heard the exchange occur in the eastern portion of the library, Cassie Bernall was in the western portion. Valeen Schnurr was in the eastern portion, she was shot by Klebold and when she cried out "GOD HELP ME!" Dylan Klebold came up to her and asked her if she believed in God... Craig Scott heard this, and assumed it was Cassie Bernall; the official investigation states Craig Scott pointed out her heard the exchange occur in the eastern side of the library, which it did... between Val Scnurr and Dylan Klebold, but not Cassie Bernall. The Val Schnurr story has already been covered in the article. PRueda29 05:27, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Dear PRueda29, However, this matter is disputed and you are treating as if it is fact and insulting many people of intelligence with a flick of the pen. The article reads as if Christians are gullible idiots. In fact, from the information I can find, this matter seems far from settled. In fact, three people verify she said "Yes." Not hearing something happens all the time especially among people who are worried about something else, like loosing their own life. Or as several articles on this have suggested possibly trauma. I don't know how it comes out, but I think you are dismissing an important element in this girls life tersely and disrespectifully. Note: one can hear and distinguish a well knownvoice and still know who it is without seeing them; you do it all the time on the phone. Furthermore, you choose no where to mention 2 important quotes (and probably many more). I know you do this because you've deleted the references, without comment. You also deleted reference, and have none yourself, to the shooters obvious animosity to Christianity. From various magazines: "Joshua Lapp, a junior, was one of the first students to report Bernall's testimonial of faith. He said his memories have not changed. She said it, Lapp said Thursday. Plain and simple. "The whole world could say Cassie never said yes to the gunman," says Craig Scott, "and I'd still stand by my knowledge that she did. They can throw this all around, but I was there. Reporters or investigators can't tell me how it went. I was there. I heard what I heard.""
Well, the article's information is taken from the official accounts released by Jefferson County, and when writing most of the article, I never took into consideration that others may still keep claim that the exhchage did take place. Because of this, i'm proposingwe work together to add a section about the unsettled controversy regarding Cassie, but you must site outside sources that have this controversy in play. You can't just post that Craig Scott said something without actually placing a link to the place where he publically says this, unless you are Craig Scott, and then you'll have to publically say it and then link it to that. I'm going to go ahead and try to change the wording of the article so that it refers to both points of view without using any hostile language, or pushing any one point oview (such as the Bowling for Columbine references). Furthermore, I was raised Christian, and don't feel the article makes Christians look like idiots. Perhaps the phrase "mistakenly believed" is a bit strong for some readers, but that can easily be reworded. If you have the sources as to where Lapp and Scott say these comments, please add them in a neutral manner with consideration to the official investigation's reports in a separate section, as well as in the Bernall article, keeping it balance. I have no problem with writing that there are people out there who believe Bernall did say those words, but it either needs to be sourced, or it needs to be written in a manner where you don't need an outside source, such as a comparison between both theories. I'll reword the beginning paragraph to remove the phrase you might find offensive, and probably remove the Cassie Bernall portion all together from the beginning. Within the "library massacre section" I'll go ahead and reword that also, so that it reflects both points of view; this way, we can compromise without arguing and aggravating each other. Also, please reply to my talk page. PRueda29 06:41, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Alright, I have reworded the article and will probably be doing the same for the Cassie Bernall page. Please leave me the source of the Scott and Lapp comments, and any other eyewitness reports on my talk page so I can reference them to the article. If you still feel strongly about any part of the article, please don't heistate to ask and I will consider changing it. Also, feel free to copyedit or add any neutral remarks to my additions as long as they're not personal opinions. Thanks PRueda29 07:00, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
