I was in the fight. I was at Barwana on 3 August 2005. I was two vehicles back from the AAV that blew up. I felt the heat of the blast on my face. I saw the bodies of the two insurgents my weapons platoon killed as they seized the Barwana Bridge. I directed the F-18 to drop a 500lbs bomb on a house across the Euphrates that killed 5 insurgents. I saw the video from my tank section of them killing 8 insurgents across the Euphrates in Haqlaniyah from Barwana with their M2.50Cal Machinegun. I talked with the Operations Officer of 3/2 on how many insurgents they killed. Conservatively it was 40 total between 3/25 and 3/2. You honestly do not think for one minute that the insurgents are super-human and invincible, do you? They bleed and die like anyone else and we are pretty good at killing them.
Where do you get your information? New York Times, MSNBC? None of those guys were with us. I was the commanding officer of Lima Company, 3/25 and I know. Just because it is not in the media, does not mean it did not happen. Eyewitness testimony should count. No offense but, I honestly do not remember any of the authors of this article who rejected my edits as being in Barwana, Iraq unless they were insurgents we missed.
Oh, one final thing, if you want to talk the Battle of Hadithah here are the real dates: March 2003 - Present. What is reported in this article is not factual. I lost the AAV, my 14 Marines, and my terp Neal in Barwana on 3 August 2005. We had just commenced Operation Quick Strike (3-11 August 2005). We were never in Hadithah and what did happen in Hadithah was part of Quick Strike.

The reason I removed the content was that it was unsourced and I initially had trouble finding the sources. I have now, however, found sources that cover almost all of the statements made. (I've highlighted those statements for which I've not yet been able to find sources in red--I will keep looking for them as I'm sure I read them a few days ago; I just can't remember where. If you have the source(s), would you please post it/them (in the article or here)?) So now that the sources are available, I will simply merge the two versions of the "The raid" section together. Basically, the version I had saved excluded the following details of the raid:
- "The the attackers first used flash grenades to confuse the Americans. They then captured two U.S. soldiers who were guarding the front and proceded to storm into a room where Americans and Iraqis were making the security plans, capturing two more soldiers."
- "No Iraqi policeman or soldier were injured in the incident, as the only target of the insurgents were the American soldiers."
- "shot at guards at a police checkpoint as they passed it. At this point the men were being followed by Iraqi security forces and all major routes of escape were blocked by the Iraqi police and Army. The insurgents, seeing no way out, then dumped the vehicles, uniforms and weapons"
- "Two soldiers were found handcuffed together and dead in the back of one of the SUVs. A third soldier was found shot and dead on the ground."
Please let me know (here, my talk page, or the article's talk page) if I've overlooked anything. I do appreciate your contribution to the article (as the description of the raid was really too short), my removal of the content was simply a matter of verification and what I perceived to be possible copyvio--maybe I was too overcautious (I did note that the wording of many of the sentences was different).
