[edit] Story
The plot for Super Mario 4, according to the game's intro: "Butch, King of the Koopa Klan, has taken over Bowser's forces *Groan*. He has also taken the *Arg* Princess. Your job, as the Player, is to sit through another game of Mario. It may look new, but trust us, it's just SMB2 with a #4. Have fun, if you can. Hahaha."
In the end, Mario and his friends trounce Butch and save Pup-con, Twerp Zone, and the Mushroom Kingdom from the Koopa Klan.
[edit] Characters
- Mario - He has average jumping, running, and strength abilities.
- Wart - The enemy of SMB2 gone good. He's with us now and commands the enemies of Sub-con.
- Bill - Bill can fly through the air, avoiding pits, but he can't attack. (in the re-make, Bill can use the Extra Attack)
- Link - Link...is in this game?
[edit] Enemies
- Shy Guys - The most common enemies. They wear masks. The red ones keep walking in a straight line forever, but the pink ones patrol a given area.
- Bob-Omb - A living bomb. Not actually an enemy in the game. Only appears in opening sequence.
- Hammer Bro. - A helmeted Koopa that throws hammers. Not actually an enemy in the game. Only appears in opening sequence.
- Tweeter - A rarely-appearing masked bird that hops along the ground to attack.
- Pidget - A bird that rides upon a magic carpet. Not actually an enemy in the game. Bill, a playable character, is a pidget.
- Goomba - Not actually an enemy in the game. Only appears in ending sequence.
- Koopa Troopa - A turtle-like enemy. When jumped on, it retreats into it's shell, which can be pushed around. (does not appear in re-make)
Phantos - These creepy-looking guys attack you when you steal the key they guard. Not actually an enemy in the game. Appears in the backround in the battle against Fred the Spanyard.
[edit] Bosses
- Fred the Spanyard - The boss of Pup-con. Can use Deathray, Ray of Death, and Deathly Deathray of Deathly Deathness.
- Darth Butch (AKA Luigi) - The final boss. Appears in Luigi's Invulnerable Fort in the Mushroom Kingdom. You can only defeated by losing the battle.
[edit] Setting
Despite being a new, supposedly unrelated land from a game not initially intended to be a Mario game, Pup-con is not all that unlike Sub-con.
Levels progress in a linear fashion, but for the first time Mario only plays through three levels, Pup-con, Twerp Zone, and Luigi's Invulnerable Fort.
[edit] Gameplay
The gameplay is that of Super Mario Bros. 2.
