A4174 road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The A4174 is a major road which runs around the northern and eastern edge of Bristol, mainly in South Gloucestershire, England. When it was first conceived it was planned to circle the whole of Bristol, and even today it is known simply as "the Ring Road" by many local people, however this is technically inaccurate, as the road does not circle the whole city, instead covering roughly a third of the route, from Filton, through to Frenchay, Bromley Heath, Emerson's Green, Kingswood and Warmley, Longwell Green and terminating at the A4 junction near Keynsham.
The road is entirely dual carriageway and runs through several roundabouts which act as junctions. In the summer of 2005, major work was carried out to a number of these roundabouts, installing traffic lights to make them signal controlled which caused major delays.
There have been several proposals to extend the ring road along the southern edge of Bristol, but no action has been taken to put it into work as of January 2007.
