A Bola (lit. The Ball) is a Portuguese sports daily, published in Lisbon. It was founded in 1945 by Cândido de Oliveira, and was then published twice a week. It became a daily newspaper in 1995.
Although its subtitle is newspaper of all sports, some 90% of its content is about football. It is generally seen as appealing to supporters of SL Benfica, although most columnists are SL Benfica supporters ,some of its other columnists are supporters of other clubs - former Prime Minister, Pedro Santana Lopes, a Sporting Clube de Portugal supporter, had a column for several years, while columnist Miguel Sousa Tavares caters for FC Porto supporters.
It is the most popular newspaper among Portuguese emmigrants abroad, and widely read on the former Portuguese colonies in Africa. From 2006, it is also printed in Newark, New Jersey.
