It was mentioned in the article that Malacca changed hands from Dutch to the English in early 19th century and the destruction of the fort began in 1806.
How can this be when Malacca only came into English hands via the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824 (See Wikipedia entry for the Treaty)?
Just a thought.

Malacca was under temporary control of the British when the Dutch was at war with the French in the early 19th century to prevent the French from invading overseas Dutch territories.Wai Hong 06:41, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
