A Jagged Era is the debut album by American R&B group Jagged Edge, which released was released on October 14, 1997 (see 1997 in music). The album peaked at a disappointing #104 on the Billboard 200, while it peaked at #19 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. Despite its disappointing peak, the album was moderately successful with sales of over 500,000 copies in the United States, earning a Gold certification by the RIAA.

Two singles from the album were released: "The Way That You Talk" and "I Gotta Be".
"The Way That You Talk" was the first single from the album. The single peaked at a moderate #34 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, while performing poorly on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #65 on the chart.
"I Gotta Be", the second single from the album, performed better on the charts, peaking at #11 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first Top 40 single.
