[edit] Welcome to WikiProject Politics!
Ace (if I may), apologies for not personally welcoming you to the project yet, and many thanks for signing up on the day of its inception (and your remark on the Portal talk page). Both the Portal and WikiProject pages are more or less up and running now, and the project page has a list of start-up tasks on there. At the moment, my main concern is to compile all categories relating to Politics and somehow present a useful selection of these on the Portal, but it would be just as helpful to start adding other tasks on the project page to keep everyone busy.
I changed the participants list shortly after you signed up to include a space for users to note down where their interests lie, so I don't know what areas you'll focus on most. But once the dust has settled and we've all got a clearer picture of what can be improved, all help will be most appreciated. Thanks, --HighHopes (T)⋅(+)⋅(C)⋅(E) 11:07, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject Politics
I've put a notice on the Project page to suggest the Project be closed down. Shortly after starting it up I was away for over a month, and on returning realised that it's just too broad - looking at some of the more successful projects, they all focus on a narrow area were WP's content was significantly lacking and would therefore benefit from a concerted collaborative effort.
I do, however, intend to maintain the Portal and keep it updated. If you would like to help with this, drop a note at the Portal talkpage (or mine). I would like to set up a notice board of sorts to organise the efforts of those who want to keep the Portal going - apart from regularly showcasing new content and the news, those involved with the Portal can still help with things like voting for FA status and so forth, so it'd be good if you want to help out in this area. Thanks, --HighHopes (T)⋅(+)⋅(C)⋅(E)⋅(P) 13:19, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] About WikiProject Politics
Hello, I noticed that you signed up for the Politics project. I would like your input on a notice template that I am working on, you can see it here. I have had some trouble finding a suitable image for it, so if you know of a more appropriate image or if you can suggest any changes that might improve the template, please drop a line. --Robert Harrisontalk contrib 06:51, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Democracy disambiguation page
I notice you have made some recent contributions to various politics-related pages. There is currently an attempt to improve the Democracy (disambiguation) page. There are currently entries for a series of articles on periods in American political history (First Party System), etc. One editor is insisting these are "types" of democracy, which need entries along with representative democracy, etc. Would you mind stopping by the Talk page and giving an opinion? Thanks - David Oberst 21:06, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- Update - there is currently a straw poll there as well. Your user page indicated you are a political scientist by training - your input would be quite useful. - David Oberst 19:38, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for your comment
Thanks for your comment re: the definition of politics. I think through discussion, we can get this right. ike9898 03:58, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tranferred comment by User:Steve Masterson
Hi Tim, Steve Masterson here. I changed the first sentence (and para) of 'politics' from 'Politics is the process by which decisions are made.' to what is there now. In my opinion that is a definition of democracy. Further, I added a second para which describes both the positive and highly popular negative opinions of democracy. Hope you agreed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Steve Masterson (talk • contribs) 02:57, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- I have reverted Steve Masterson's unhelpful change to Politics (diff), and moved his comment from your User page here to the Talk page. - David Oberst 19:26, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Politics
Per your comments at Talk:Politics, I'm glad you liked my changes to this article. When I first looked at it, there were no inline citations at all, so it wasn't clear which parts of the article were sourced; I did some extensive research and added a large number of footnotes, and also rewrote parts of the article (especially the intro) for added clarity. I've now nominated it for good article status. I meant to ask you, do you think we should slim down the sections on political power and Weber's classification of authority, as these topics already have their own articles? I was thinking of doing that, but didn't want to act without consensus and/or delete useful content. What do you think? Walton Vivat Regina! 19:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
