Adi ibn Hatim
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adiyy ibn Hatim was an Arab king, and one of the companions of the Muhammad. He is the son of the famous Hatim at-Taai who was widely known for his chivalry and generosity. Adiyy remained antagonistic to Islam for about twenty years until he converted to Islam.
Adiyy inherited the domain of his father and was confirmed in the position by the Tayy people. A great part of his strength lay in the fact that a quarter of any amount they gained as booty from raiding expeditions had to be given to him.
In the ninth year of the Hijrah, Adiyy ibn Hatim made the first positive move to Islam after years of feeling hatred for it. He drew closer to faith after opposing and fighting it. He pledged allegiance to Muhammad after his complete refusal to do so.
