Admirable Campaign

The Admirable Campaign (in Spanish: Campaña Admirable) was a military action led by Simón Bolívar from Cúcuta with the Battle of Cúcuta May 14, 1813. Its objective was to free Venezuela from Spanish control.
After the loss of the First Republic, in which the provinces of Mérida, Barinas, Trujillo and Caracas were liberated, Bolivar asked for help from the Nueva Granada government through a document named The Manifest of Cartagena (es: Manifiesto de Cartagena), his petition is regarded favourably considering the numerous actions that he executed for the Neogranadan government.
As soon as the authorization took place the campaign started its march towards Venezuela the 14th of May 1813. The expedition was formed by two divisions, in the front Colonel Atanasio Girardot and in the rear Colonel José Félix Ribas; the latter marched through San Cristóbal -La Grita - Mérida - Trujillo finishing with a triumphal entrance to the city of Caracas the 6th of August 1813, after defeating the royalist forces in several occasions.
