Admiral Group

Admiral Group plc is a British motor insurance company headquartered in Cardiff, Wales. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.
Admiral was formed in 1991 by Lloyd's agent Henry Englhart to offer car insurance via direct telephone sales. It commenced telesales in 1993 and internet sales in 1995. It has introduced several additional brands for niche markets:
- Bell Direct for male drivers.
- Diamond for female drivers (although they also sell to men)
- Gladiator for commercial vehicles
- elephant.co.uk for online sales
- confused.com for online automated price comparison of insurance from a panel of direct insurers[1][2]
In the year ended 31 December 2004 Admiral Group made profits before tax of £101 million.
Since going public Admiral Groups share price has performed well doubling in value within in two years. The share price on flotation was around £3.00 The share price recently reached £7.00.
The company has consistently featured in the Sunday Times top 100 companies to work for.
