The Admiralty Islands campaign, also known as Operation Brewer, was a series of battles in the New Guinea campaign of World War II. The United States 1st Cavalry Division assaulted Japanese bases on the Admiralty Islands. The campaign began when the Americans assaulted Los Negros island on 29 February 1944. The campaign ended with the final actions on Manus, on 25 March.
Imperial Japanese Army forces consisted of the 51st Transport Regiment, the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Independent Mixed Regiment, and elements of the Imperial Japanese Navy 14th Naval Base Force.[1]

Not long after the campaign concluded, it was memoralized by the escort aircraft carrier, USS Admiralty Islands, named on April 26, 1944.
