Adswood tip
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adswood tip and the Adswood Eco Centre is a civic amenity centre and closed landfill located between Adswood and Cheadle Hulme. It is bordered by the Lady Brook (Micker Brook) and Seven Arches Railway Viaduct, part of the West Coast Main Line. There has been plans to transform the site into an airpark (car park) for Manchester Airport.[1] Adswood Ecocentre is on waste management site licensed to take asbestos waste for the Stockport area.[2] Adswood Ecocentre also houses a distinctive salt storage building visible whilst passing by on the train.[3]
Adswood Eco Centre was opened in May 1997 when it was estimated it would dispose of over 10,000 tonnes of waste each year with at least 40 per cent of the rubbish to be recycled. The Ecocentre was part of Stockport's successful bid to become a 'Beacon Council' for waste management in the UK.[4]
