Talk:Al Matthews
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In real life, Matthews was a member of the United States Marine Corps. According to IMDb, he was the first black Marine ever promoted to the rank of gunnery sergeant while serving in the Vietnam War, however, this is false.
In Matthews's own words as per his web site. "I spent six years in the United States Marine Corps; I hold thirteen combat awards and decorations, including two purple hearts. I was the first black marine in the first marine division in Viet Nam, to be meritorious promoted to the rank of sergeant; I served with Kilo battery, fourth battalion, 11th Marines, First Marine Division, of that I am very proud."
I think we can go ahead an remove the part about the Gunnery Sergeant bit, so I'll go ahead and take that out. Gelston 21:32, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
