Albur

An Albur in Mexico is a word game consisting of a double entendre, usually with a sexual undertone and its use is considered somewhat in bad taste when not among friends, especially in the presence of women. It is a form of comedy in Mexico and many artists and comedians are renowned for their skills in this, like Victor Trujillo and Polo Polo. Usually, the albur consists of "winning" by leaving the other person without something to answer. The purpose of the albur is to show your masculinity or the other person's lack of it, by either making a remark of being the aggressor (or male) in the sexual intercourse, or making the other person be the female (or both at the same time). In the context of an albur, the receptive side of the sexual intercourse is considered the woman and the giving side the male, regardless of whether it be male to male intercourse or male to female. Someone who is prolific in this type of word play is known as an alburero.

When asked "¿Me das tu hora?" (literally, "could you give me your time", but because of the phonetical similarity between hora (time) and ahora (now or today), it could be interpreted as "would you give it to me today?") a common answer would be "Si, y también mañana" ("Yes and tomorrow as well") as if "offering him to give it to him".
