Popular where, and among who? Not worldwide, I'd say. Maybe change to "is a preacher and civil right activist popular in the United States of America"
Reverend Albert Paul Brinson, was close friends with Martin Luther King. Together King, John Lewis, and Julian Bond fought for the civil rights movement.
