Aldringham

Aldringham is a village in Suffolk, England. The village is located 3 miles northwest of Aldeburgh. It lies near the coast and contains the hamlet of Thorpe. It was formerly a market town. The village pub (despite being 2 miles from the coast) was heavily involved in the smuggling scene and there are plenty of references to this in the pub. There is very little sense of community in the village as it is sprawled out over a considerable area. Geographically closer to Leiston but socially it has become more associated with the richer communities of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness. The village has recently expanded with the building of a small housing estate but, unfortunatly this has done nothing to address the problem of affordable housing in the village. The rises in house prices have not been reflected in local wages and many young people have been forced to move out of the village.
