Alexander MacRae

Alexander MacRae (born circa 1892) was an Australian entrepreneur and clothing manufacturer. Born in Scotland, he emigrated to Australia where in 1914 he founded the company that would become the swimwear giant Speedo.

Alexander's Father Murdo was a fisherman in the kyle of Loch Alsh in the North West of Scotland. He married at the Kyle of Loch Alsh train Station to Mary Macleay.
Alexander MacRae founded a hoisery company in 1914 known as 'MacRae Knitting Mills' later to become 'SPEEDO'. The name SPEEDO was Agreed through a vote within the company.
Married Martha and had five sons and a daughter. Alisdair, Jim, Cameron, Ronald, David and Jean.
