Alexis Toth
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saint Alexis Toth (or Alexis of Wilkes-Barre) (1853-1909) was a Ruthenian Greek-Catholic missionary priest, sent to the United States from his homeland in Austria-Hungary (present day Prešov in Slovakia). When Roman Catholic Archbishop John Ireland refused to recognize Toth as a priest, he led his flock from the Ruthenian Catholic to the Russian Orthodox Church in the late 19th century.
