Talk:Alford L. McMichael
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article's content appears to have come from NATO. Is their material public domain? Strangely, it seems the person essentially copied and pasted it, yet edited out the part where he served as a security guard. Kjkolb 12:56, August 20, 2005 (UTC)
- It's probably public domain, but I think it's sloppy to just copy and paste the source material. Same problem with the John L. Estrada article. TaintedMustard 08:59, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Content Background
SgtMaj McMichael's bio is actually taken, in root, from the United States Marine Corps General Officer's Bio (www.usmc.mil), as he served as the SgtMaj of the Marine Corps. It should be public domain. PFC Turner, USMC138.162.140.45 20:04, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wars?
The sidebar mentions both the Iraq and the Afghanistan wars (under their military PR monikers), but the bio says nothing about when and how he participated. Are there any references? I wouldn't doubt that he has set foot in Iraq, for example, to check up on the troops, but what length of deployment constitutes... constitutes... come to think of it, what does it even mean to write "Wars: Operation E.F, Operation I.F." under his name? This is one of the many things that makes this article more like a resume than an encyclopedia article. --Rschmertz 02:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think it should be removed. The dude is not an active participant in those operations. The only way he would be in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. would be to check up on Marines, give them a pep talk that most wouldn't want to hear, then hop back on a plane for the Pentagon. Usually 30 consecutive days in theater are required to be credited with campaign participation. If no one objects, it should be removed. Nobunaga24 02:24, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- Agree with above. Shouldn't be there. I'll pull it.
[edit] Housecleaning
Made a lot of changes - this was the first article I created, thanks for everyone helping me fix it, I've learned a lot. I'm a big fan of the SgtMaj's and I want this article to be a good as he deserves. Semper Fi.Windyjarhead 22:57, 27 March 2006 (UTC)windyjarhead
