Amerindie rock is a subset of Indie Rock with particular focus on bands that originated in the United States.
The Amerindie rock scene grew out of the ashes of what could be called the third wave of the San Franciso Punk Scene, i.e., from bands like the Dead Kennedys, the Nuns, Negative Trend, the Dils, the Dickies, Flipper.
Some notable Amerindie bands include: R.E.M. Hüsker Dü, The Pixies, The Replacements, Mission of Burma, the Lyres, the Neats, The Feelies, The Bongos, the Individuals, the Dbs, Pere Ubu, Human Switchboard, The Violent Femmes, the Windbreakers, Defenestration, The Embarrassments, The Woods, Let's Active, Young Fresh Fellows, The Wipers, The Fastbacks, The Pontiac Brothers, Savage Republic, Redd Kross, Meat Puppets, Camper Van Beethoven, 10,000 Maniacs, TSOL, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Soul Asylum, Big Star, and Big Black.
These bands were very influential to bands like Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, the Melvins, and Nirvana. source: "On the Route 666 Road to Nirvana" by Gina Arnold.
