Ban Thaen (Thai: บ้านแท่น) is the northeasternmost district(Amphoe) of Chaiyaphum Province, northeastern Thailand.

Tambon Sam Suan, Ban Tao and Ban Thaen were separated from Phu Khiao district to created Ban Thaen minor district (King Amphoe) in 1965. It was official upgraded to a full district in 1972.

Neighboring districts are (from the southwest clockwise) Kaeng Khro, Phu Khiao of Chaiyaphum Province, Nong Ruea and Mancha Khiri of Khon Kaen Province.

The district is subdivided into 5 communes (tambon), which are further subdivided into 66 villages (muban). The township (thesaban tambon) Ban Thaen covers parts of the tambon Ban Thaen. There are further 5 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
