The Ancient Books of Ys are fictional works featured in Nihon Falcom's cult video games of the same name, adapted into three OVA series of anime. In the game, the books tell the history of a forgotten utopia that its hero must fight to uncover and eventually restore.
The series is set in the land of Esteria, which has fallen under siege by a demonic force. Meanwhile the young swordsman, Adol Christin, from Promarock, is searching for the original Esteria. The young boy Adol travels not for fame or for glory but because of a feeling, a feeling in his heart that he must find Esteria for unknown reasons. Now with demons scattered over the lands and danger everywhere he must search for the six books of the lost empire of Ys in an effort to save Esteria from evil forces, as well as to save the world.
This is a series of episodes and leads into The Ancient Books of Ys 2 there are also books which add to the series.
