Talk:Ancona
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I am changing the spelling of "Repubblic" (in History section, 3rd paragraph) to "Republic". Please leave a message on my talk page if this is the wrong action for me to take (i.e. historical spelling). Kevin Hanse (talk) 14:55, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Etymology
The "elbow" etymology is already covered. "The name Ancona means "elbow" (from Greek *ankon 'elbow'), referring to the shape of its geographical position. We can find similar references to the shape of the human body in other cities with similar geo-morphological features, like Genova and Geneva (which names originate from the Proto-Indo-European *genu, meaning 'knee')." --Wetman 20:07, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
