Andrew Hunter Arbuthnot Murray

Sir Andrew Hunter Arbuthnot Murray, OBE, JP (born Edinburgh 19 December 1903. died 1977/8) was Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Scotland between 1947 and 1951.
Son of Alfred Alexander Arbuthnot Murray MA, LLB, WS, JP, FRSE (born 25 March 1863, son of Joseph Murray and Margaret Hunter) and Mary Moir. Murray was educated Daniel Stewart's College and George Heriot's School. Councillor of Edinburgh 1929. Hon City Treasurer 1943-46. President of Liberal Party Organisation 1961-65. Honorary Colonel of the 52nd (Queens Edinburgh Royal Scots) Searchlight, of 130th Light Anti-Aircraft and of 587th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery.
Sir Andrew was knighted on 25 February 1949. OBE 1945. He was appointed Commander of the Venerable Order of Saint John 24 June 1949; Knight of St John 1954. Chancellor of the Priory of Scotland and Preceptor of Torpichen. In 1950, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Law from the University of Edinburgh. On 23 January 1953 he became Deputy Lieutenant of Edinburgh.
He was also the author of the book The Scottish National War Memorial: The Castle Edinburgh.
