ANTIGENIC DETERMINANTS (Epitopes)
–Molecular fragment- anything foreign to the body
Antigenic determinants are made up of proteins,lipoproteins, glycoproteins, and polysaccharides.
-Size of fragment
-Molecular weight -Haptens -Ex: drugs, chemicals, poison ivy, etc.
-Types of antigens
-auto-antigens -allo-antigens -super-antigen: most deadly; all chemical mediators sent out at once -allergens -heterophile (cross react): something that looks to be foreign but isn't
