Apollyon: The Destroyer Is Unleashed is the fifth book in the Left Behind series. It was written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins in 1998.
[edit] Plot introduction
Antichrist and Global Community Supreme Potentate Nicolae Carpathia grants Tsion Ben-Judah permission to speak at Teddy Kollek Memorial Stadium in Jerusalem, and the world holds its breath as the Tribulation Force ventures to Jerusalem for the great Meeting of the Witnesses, where tens of thousands defy Antichrist to sit under the ministry of their pastor-teacher.
[edit] Plot summary
Carpathia’s attempts to undermine the evangelizations backfire as do his confrontations with the two witnesses Eli and Moishe – supernatural presences in Jerusalem since the Rapture.
Moreover, although Cameron "Buck" Williams and Rayford Steele have become international fugitives, new believers like Condor 216 first officer Mac McCullum and programmer David Hassid take their places as moles in the Global Community and use his infrastructures to evangelize and thwart Carpathia’s attempts to find members of the Tribulation Force. Rayford also discovers from Hattie Durham that Amanda White was entirely innocent of supposed collaboration with Carpathia - the email texts were simply an elaborate smear campaign ordered by Carpathia himself.
Meanwhile Chloe Steele Williams leads believers throughout the world in setting up a clandestine, global free market space that will sustain them once Carpathia’s excludes them from commerce while the earth is ravaged by the fifth Trumpet Judgment-a plague of scorpion-like locusts led by Apollyon, chief demon of the Abyss-is so horrifying that men try to kill themselves but are not allowed to die.
In the final chapter Chloe gives birth to a son (Kenneth Bruce Williams) - and Hattie, who has had a miscarriage, starts up a flirtation with a non-believer. More to be told in the next books.
