Arántzazu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arántzazu is a town in the mountains above Oñati. It is centered around the Pilgrimage Church of Our Lady. A shepherd is said to have discovered a figure of the Virgin in a thorn-bush here in 1469, and his exclamation "Arantza su!" (Thou, among the thorns!) gave rise to the name of the place. The original 16th Century chapel was replaced in 1950 by a church in a contemporary, utilitarian style.
