Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum

al-Raheeq Al-Makhtum (meaning The Sealed Nectar) is an authoritative and popular biography of Muhammad, written by Shaikh Saif ur-Rahman al-Mubarakpuri. It was awarded first prize by the Muslim World League, at the first Islamic Conference on Seerah, following a world-wide competition for a book on the life of Muhammad in 1979 CE (1399 AH). the book competed with 170 other manuscripts, 84 in Arabic, 64 in Urdu, 21 in English, one in French and one in Hausa. The author, Saif ur-Rahman Mubarakpuri, who claims his kuniyat (descent) from Abu Hisham, was born in the north Indian village of Husainabad in 1942. In his youth he was admitted to Madras Arabia Darut-Taleem in Mubarakpur, one mile from his home village. In June 1954 he was admitted to Madarsa Ehyaul Uloom, where he pursued studies in Islamic studies and Arabic literature. Two years later he joined Madaras Faid Aam, in the Maunath Bhanjan District Azamgarh for higher education, from where he received his Fadilat degree five years later.
After this he began teaching, lecturing and delivering sermons. In March 1963, he joined Madrasa Faid-e-Aam as a teacher. In 1966, he transferred to Madrasa Dar-ul-Hadeeth. In 1969 he was appointed as principal of Madrasa Faidul-Uloom at Seoni (M P). From 1972-4 he served a principal in his native school, Madras Arabia Darut-Taleem. From October 1974, to July 1988, Mubarakpuri served various position at Jamiah Salafiah in Banares, including Ustad (teacher). From 1988 he has been working as a scholar at a reasearch institute known as "The Centre for the Services of the Prophet's Biography" at the Islamic University of Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah.[2]
