Area code 914
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Area code 914 is a state of New York telephone area code. It is the area code for Westchester County. It was one of the original area codes established in October, 1947.
Until 2000, the 914 area code also served the counties of Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Delaware, Greene and Columbia in addition to Westchester. However, due to the ever-growing popularity and commercialization of cell phones and internet dial-up connections, the area code was split on June 5, 2000 with Westchester retaining 914, and the remaining counties receiving the new area code of 845.
In addition to the aforementioned counties, 914 also carried the Long Island counties of Nassau and Suffolk until the 516 area code was given to Long Island in 1951.
