Argentum Online is a free Spanish-language, open source, massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). It features a guild system, magic system, combat system and skill system. Players can assume the role of a warrior, knight, wizard, druid, assassin, fisherman, woodcutter, or cleric, among others.

Development of the game began in late 2000 by a non-professional team of Argentinans who were testing a project for the University. When the first open beta version of the game was released, the development team was christened NoLand Studios.
The aim of the project was to make the first free MMORPG in Latin America and to serve as a learning exercise for the developers. In December 2002, the game was in its final beta stages. The game was well received on the net, with more that 2000 active players, most of them from Argentina, Latin America and Spain. All three servers for the game are quite busy (two in Argentina and one in Spain), with a record of 375 simultaneous players on the main server. There are typically over 200 users at any given time.
Argentum Online's 2D graphical engine is pretty basic, yet adequate to properly represent the fictional world of Argentum. The game's developers feel that the relative success of the game is due to their refusal to follow traditional "recipes". Instead, they followed their own imagination.
The final version of the game is still under development. The development is fixing bugs and adding new features to the game.
On 25 November 2002, the game’s source code was released under GPL license.
[edit] Game play
The most remarkable characteristics of Argentum are freedom and frankness. Freedom, as the adventurers can to do almost anything they want to do. In many MMORPGs, the players cannot attack each other or journey freely around the world. The game is also frank, since it does not ask the players to go on impossible quests.
You begin the game by creating a new character. All characters have skills and attributes. Each skill or attribute is related to some action or task, and determines how good the player's characters are at performing it.

[edit] Wizard
While it is the physically weakest character with his low points of life, the Wizard is very rich in maná and has a very simple manner of combat. The Wizard is the most common character class.
[edit] Cleric
Clerics are half magic and half combat, so they can use more items than a wizard but not as many as a Knight.

Druids are similar to Wizards but have less maná and a little more points of life. Some servers running Argentum Online endeavor to make classes more equal and give Druids the ability to control a permanent pet that can level up like characters.
[edit] Warrior
The Warrior is a combat class. A good Warrior with sufficient points in constitution can get a high quantity of life and could be very dangerous. It is the most resistant class of all, but doesn't have any maná so is very difficult to train alone.

The Knight is a very powerful class but very difficult to train at the beginning. It can use many Warrior items and has a few maná. Knights cannot use most of the spell available to Wizards nor can they use them as often, due to very limited maná.

Assassins are also a combat class, but have a bit less life than Knights. Assassins can also back-stab using a short knife.

Hunters get the life of a Knight, but no maná. They are very deadly with bows and in some servers also get the Druid's option to have a pet.
[edit] Fisherman, woodcutter, miner, carpenter, blacksmith
Working classes each gather materials or create items.
[edit] Burgler
It's like a worker Class, it is specialized in robbing. With this ability you can get things like Money or items from other users. (See Safe/Unsafe Zones)

The recommended way is to play "Imperium" (see links), the full installer version containst an option to have it in english mode. (Note: most of the players and game masters speak Spanish, but surely all can understand and speak also English)
