Arizona State Route 802
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
State Route 802 (SR-802), also known as the Williams Gateway Freeway, is a planned freeway in the extreme southeastern region of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It will start at Loop 202 Santan Freeway and its terminus will be at the US 60 outside of Gold Canyon, Arizona. It is planned as a controlled-access freeway to move traffic from the eastern suburbs of Phoenix to planned ones in western Pinal County.
In November 2004, voters in Maricopa County approved an extension to an existing sales tax funding transportation improvements. A portion of those funds will go toward improvements of new and existing freeways, which experiences significant volumes of traffic in parts of the Phoenix metro area.
Although no construction has begun for the route, planning documents have identified a study area running roughly 5 miles east of Loop 202 to US 60 through largely undeveloped land.
Construction is not anticipated to begin before 2016 according to current ADOT planning documents, to be completed sometime by 2020, although the lengthy process of studies and public input required prior to construction has begun.
