Arkansas Highway 43

Highway 43 is a highway in northwest Arkansas. Originally numbered Highway 99, it was renumbered in the mid-1960's to its present number. Its northern terminus is at the Missouri state line near Southwest City, Missouri where it continues north as Route 43. Its southern terminus was originally at U.S. Highway 412 in Siloam Springs, but was rerouted in the mid 1990's along the former Highway 204, terminating at Highway 59. Several of the northern most miles run on the Arkansas/Oklahoma state line, and the road overlaps Oklahoma State Highway 20 (one of the extremely rare instances of state highways from two different states overlapping). Other than Siloam Springs, the only other town on the route is Maysville which is on the state line approximately two miles south of where Oklahoma 20 splits off from Arkansas 43.
Another section of Highway 43 begins at Highway 21 near Boxley and runs north for approximately 28 miles, ending at Highway 7 south of Harrison.
A third section of Highway 43 begins at U.S. Highway 65 on the north end of Harrison and runs approximately 2 miles before ending at Highway 7 north of Harrison
In an almost-as-unique situation, for the northernmost few miles of the overlapping stretch of road AR-43/OK-20 turns toward the west, no longer straddling the state line. For those few miles, Highway 43 is located wholly within the state of Oklahoma but is not apparent to the traveler.
