Uh, that's not a word for encylopedia. The Armenian word for encyclopedia is հանրագիտարան not համայնագիտարան. A Google search for հանրագիտարան returns 3,320 results. It returns 0 results for համայնագիտարան. Go to the Armenian official wikipedia and see what it says: hy.wikipedia.org Funny mistake nonetheless.--Eupator 15:36, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

That was a rather rude comment. There is more than one dictionary in the world, Eupator, and hy.wikipedia.org is not a definitive source. I got this definition from the "English-Armenian Modern Dictionary," by Mardiros Koushakdjian and Rev. Dicran Khantrouni, Beirut, 2001, p. 279.Serouj 22:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

FYI, just found out that the two words are synonyms, per the same dictionary. Eupator, you could have done more research than a simple Google query, before making such a blatant claim. I ask you very politely, please be more careful in the future.Serouj 22:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Do not assume that I didn't know that it's a synonym. Regardless, there is no encyclopedia with that name therefore a synonym is irrelevant. I can make up ten more words like thar and claim it's a synonym but who needs it if it's not used. Tell me of one encyclopedia with that name? There isn't one.

On the other hand we have: Շախմատի Հանրագիտարան, Համաքրիստոնէական Հանրագիտարան, ՀԱՅԿԱԿԱՆ ՀԱՆՐԱԳԻՏԱՐԱՆ, Հայկական սովետական հանրագիտարան, Երեւան, 1977 etc....Btw according to Wikipedia policy the google search would have been enough to revert that. I think that's an over-generalization and quite difficult for you to prove. I've referenced an English-Armenian dictionary, and you can take your claim to its authors. Neither you (I'm assuming) nor I have published a dictionary. I'm merely going by faith that those authors have done their research, and so should you.Serouj 23:42, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't know why you make a big fuss about such trivial issues. Since we've agreed that they're synonyms, I really don't see why it would matter which one we use. Also, a thought just occurred to me: this image isn't meant to be an Armenian to English or English to Armenian translation of the word encyclopedia! It's simply meant to demonstrate the Armenian alphabet! Therefore, any word could be written there... Anyways, time to go back into real life, and not waste time about such an infinitesimally meaningless argument in an infinitely large universe. I'm out!Serouj 23:45, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

What are the credentials of those that wrote that dictionary in Beirut? A reverend? I have three English-Armenian dictionaries next to me that do not have that word. I said it's a synonym, I also said that I can come up with a bunch of other synonyms like that. The point remains that there is no encyclopedia with that name. And yes it's meant to display the letters but it also says that the word means an encylopedia and that's missleading. Choose a different word if you don't want me to change it.--Eupator 23:58, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Eupator I like you because of your contributions to articles on Armenians and Armenia. I don't like you because you're such a nag. But my liking you for your contributions on Armenians and Armenia trumps the fact that you're such a nag and don't know how to compromise . Therefore, since this is making you so upset (and since I don't want this to negatively affect your other work on Wikipedia re: Armenia/Armenians) and since this really doesn't mean much to me if we go with համայնագիտարան or հանրագիտարան, let's go with հանրագիտարան. P.S. In my experience, reverends/clergymen probably have a good understanding of the Armenian language. Remember, all the schools of the middle ages were run by the church, Mesrob Mashdots was a clergyman, etc...

Why does it matter so much to revert all the Eastern Armenian text into Western Armenian? Nevermind the fact encylopedia is spelled Հանրագիտարան, this is a non-issue. Me and Eupator were educated in the Soviet Armenian/Armenian language system which used the Eastern Armenian standard so let's drop this and focus on more important topics than whether or not Diaspora Armenians should be taught to speak and spell the Eastern and Western dialects.--MarshallBagramyan 00:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
