[edit] Dr. Marion Blank

Dr. Blank is a developmental psychologist with a specialization in language and learning. She has spent over forty years studying how children learn language, in both its spoken and written forms. She has lectured extensively around the world, served as a consultant to government bureaus in many different countries, authored over sixty articles and seven books on language, and developed an award-winning “Sentence Master” computer program that teaches reading.

Dr. Blank has developed a unique and comprehensive model for teaching reading that is based on six critical skills. Two are physical skills: the visual sequencing skills for reading the fine motor performance for writing and four are language skills: phonology, semantics, syntax and discourse. This model allows reading to be taught to a wide variety of children, including those for whom reading attainment is highly problematic such as non-verbal autistic children.

Her latest book The Reading Remedy and her latest program Phonics Plus Five are designed to make her system easily available to parents so that they may prevent or overcome the reading failure that afflicts about 40% of the school population across the nation.

Dr. Blank is currently on the faculty of the Department of Child Psychiatry at Columbia University where she is the Director of the A Light on Literacy program. She also operates a private practice in New York and New Jersey where she is a licensed psychologist. Additionally, she serves as a consultant to a wide range of school districts in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. She also devotes considerable time and energy to producing books, articles, software programs and tests (including the widely used Preschool Language Assessment Instrument, a test published in both in English and Spanish, that is designed to assess the verbal communication skills of children in the preschool years).

Previously, from 1973 to 1983, Dr. Blank was a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers Medical School. In that capacity, she served as the director of a research unit in reading disabilities. From 1960 to 1973, she was on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where her work included serving as the Director of the teaching program of the interdisciplinary Training Program.

Throughout her career, Dr. Blank has been the recipient of many awards and commendations. Her software reading program, Sentence Master, received the Special Education Software Award from the Software Publishers Association and a Certificate of Achievement in the Johns Hopkins University National Search. She has been the recipient of a U.S. Public Health Service Career Development Award, an Award of Commendation from the New Jersey Speech and Hearing Association and the Elwyn Morey Memorial Lectureship in Australia. In 1996, she was the National Tour Lecturer for the Australian Speech/Language Association. She was the 1994 and 1995 New Jersey nominee for the Frank R. Kleffner Clinical Career Award of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

In addition, she is a member and fellow of the American Psychological Association, and a member of the Association of Children with Learning Disabilities. She has served on the editorial boards of a number of journals concerned with the issues of language and learning (e.g., Child Development, Applied Psycho- linguistics, Child Development and Care) as well as the boards of numerous committees including the William T. Grant Foundation and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

[edit] Phonics Plus Five

Phonics Plus Five is a commercial brand of reading materials, that is based upon a new and unique model for reading education. Developed by Dr. Marion Blank, an internationally recognized developmental psychologist and educator from Columbia University, the model proposes that six key skills are needed for successful reading and writing. As outlined in Dr. Blank’s book, The Reading Remedy, the model encompasses two physical skills: the visual sequencing skills for reading the fine motor performance for writing and four language skills: phonology, semantics, syntax and discourse. Currently, reading education is dominated by two systems: phonics and whole language. Each of these teaches only one of the six skills of reading with phonics concentrating on phonology and whole language on discourse. As a result, the teaching leaves most children with major deficits in the key areas of literacy, leading to the 40 % reading failure rate that is consistently reported in government studies.

Phonics Plus Five, by contrast, teaches all six skills through a comprehensive program involving workbooks, full color books and an easy to follow manual. Designed for children in kindergarten-4th grade, each teaching session takes only 15-30 minutes a day. The program is designed for use both at home and in school.

[edit] Lyrics

[edit] Original songs

Benderaku yang gagah perkasa
Merah putih kuning biru warnanya
Berkibar megah penuh bercahaya
Pusaka kita rakyat Malaysia
Bendera Malaysia oh bendera ku
Ku pertahankan sepenuh raga ku
Dikaulah lambang negara berpadu
Di bawah naungan Duli Tuanku
Berkibar terus oh bendera ku
Kau kan ku junjung sepanjang waktu
Harumlah nama negara yang tercinta
Padamu tempat taat dan setia
Bendera Malaysia oh bendera ku
Kemegahan rakyat kita semua
Berkibar berkibar di ruang angkasa

[edit] BRENDAN PHILIP MASI

Brendan Philip Masi (1580 - 1621) was the leader of a small expidition along the rocky shorelines of Southern Maine and New Hampshire in the early 1600's. He is most noted for discovering the plot of land where modern day Manchester, NH is founded. Brendan was born in London, England in 1580 to a poor family. His father Ricco Masi was an Italian mapmaker and his mother Catherine a failed actress. His early years were marred by failure in various attempts at taxadermy, equestrianism, and prostitution. After joining the Royal British Navy in 1596, Masi headed to the new colonies on a scientific expidition. When his superior Tim Mina fell ill with chlamydia and died in 1599, Masi was named the leader of the Manchester Expidition. In 1610 the ship finally anchored near modern day Portland, ME. For nearly five years Masi lead his group of seventy-seven men up and down the New England Coast mapping its details. Not much is known of their discoveries or adventures. In 1621 Masi died of a gunshot wound, which was believed to be fired by Private Lee Flannery.

Masi's contribution to the modern America has been vastly oversighted and ignored. A new publication set to be released in 2009 will, however, document many unknowns of the Macnchester Expidition.

[edit] Franklin Kiermyer

Born July 21, 1956 in Montreal, Canada, drummer/composer Franklin Kiermyer burst onto the New York Jazz scene in the early 90's garnering an unusual level of critical acclaim in a short period of time:

"...Visionary...(Kiermyer has) landed himself in the land of jazz titans." - James Lien / CMJ NEW MUSIC REPORT

His music was quickly compared to the late sixties music of tenor player John Coltrane:

"Imagine if drummer Elvin Jones and Pianist McCoy Tyner had not left the John Coltrane Quartet in early 1966 and had spent another year with the great saxophonist; it might have sounded something like this." - Scott Yanow / L.A. JAZZ SCENE

"...I haven't heard anyone drum with so much brazenly savage virtuosity since Elvin Jones pounded a hole through the firmament on John Coltrane's Sun Ship." - Tim Powis / EYE MAGAZINE

and the spiritual feeling of his drumming and compositions caught the attention of even the mainstream music press:

"Kiermyer plays (and composes) with an almost evangelical belief in jazz as a form of pure inspiration." - David Hajdu / ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

"Blessed with the ecstatic quality of Kiermyer's free-bop attack...drummer Franklin Kiermyer is that rare 90's jazzman." - David Fricke / ROLLING STONE

"...he is a polyrhythmic whirlwind...this is the real thing... marvelous, powerfully affirmative music." - Bill Tilland / OPTION

[edit] Lonnie Harrell

BIO’S

Lonnie Harrell

CEO of “R.B.L. Entertainment” Co Founder of A&R.Biz Member of the “And 1 Mixtape Tour” Professional Basketball player

Lonnie Harrell Personal and Professional Background “Leadership comes with being prepared!”

Lonnie Harrell aka L Train aka Prime Objective was born on November 11, 1972. He was raised in Washington, DC by his mother, Apostle Romaine Harrell with his one sister, Kelley Brooks. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1991 and was named "most likely to succeed.” During his high school career he was involved in many team sports including football, tennis, track and basketball, where he was team captain (for basketball) and acknowledged with an Honorable Mention for “Athlete of the Year” as well as the Washington Post All Metropolitan Basketball Team.

After high school, Lonnie was heavily pursued by several colleges including, N.C. State, UNLV and UCLA; he committed to Georgetown University where he played under the infamous Coach John Thompson and was teammates with Miami Heat’s Alonzo Morning. In his junior year he transferred to Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts where he studied Psychology under Professor Jack Levin. The most renowned Criminal justice Psychologist in America.

Before his journey of becoming an NBA player, Lonnie (at this time going by the nick name LTrain) took his skills on the road. Playing in NY, Philadelphia and D.C. L-Train made a name for his self. In a pro-am in Philadelphia, he was discovered by the likes of the Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic to attend their veteran camps. The game he was discovered, he was injured and accepted the invitation to Orlando re injured again in training camp and released once he was better. The journey didn't stop there.

Prime is one of the founding members of A&R.Biz and 3Point Ent. both entertainment and management companies. His Street-ball credibility is due to his professional involvement with the NBA, USBL, IBA, IBL, NBDL, LPB and And 1, where he received awards and honors such as USBL “All Rookie team” (1996), three time “Player of the week” “Player of the year” nominee; IBA “Rookie of the year”; IBL, “All first team”; USBL “All first team”; and NBDL “First team.”

Prime has had the opportunity to participate in renowned basketball tournaments, including the annual “George Goodman League” in his home town of Washington, DC. His performance that summer led to an invitation to the 2001 New Jersey Net’s season’s veteran’s camp where he was the last cut then selected in first round of the NBA’s developmental league’s inaugural 2001 season draft.

Prime’s basketball experience has led to worldwide reorganization with red carpet appearances to BET Awards, Source Awards, MTV Award, SAG Awards (presenter at both Source Awards and SAG Awards) and many other celebrity affairs around the country. He has been featured in multiple urban and sports magazines and has been invited to some of the most prestigious basketball events from celebrity athletes and entertainers such as, Allen Iverson, Terrell Owens and Carmelo Anthony. Prime’s most recent celebrity appearance was at Penny Marshall's (acclaimed film producer & director) charity event.

Being in front of the T.V. camera 8 months out of the year with the And 1 Mixtape tour has opened other doors in television for Prime. He is now host of an Internet Hip Hop show on Ontop TV.com and will be on the big screen next fall in a new movie.

Prime currently resides in Miami & Washington, D.C. where he enjoys the warm sunshine and hobby of board skating. He also spends time in Los Angeles where he is working on a film career, both acting and production.

Outlook: It is no secret that Prime is a very personable in addition to his incredible skill level. Darrell Dawkins, former NBA player and USBL coach stated that he“…can play multiple positions…” and Bryon Scott, former New Jersey Nets Coach commented that “he has versatility.” Bottom line! Prime is a force to be reckoned with! His years of experience in the basketball circuit has provided the opportunity for him to be on NBA rosters but his Street-ball mentality always landed him in the voracious Street-ball arena. He has been a dominate force on the most competitive courts of NYC and recognized as one of the top Streetballers of all time. There he formed teams with the likes of Jay Z, Irv Gotti, 50 Cent, and Source Magazine allowing his notoriety to sore all new heights with in the urban community and within the professional basketball world.

[edit] DeShaun Thomas

DeShaun Thomas, a highly touted ameteur basketball player attending Fort Wayne, Indiana's Bishop Luers High School has been recognized by NBA scouts as the next Lebron James. What Thomas eventually becomes, only time will tell, but he's been a star as a 14-year-old freshman at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers. The 6-7, 210-pound shooting guard is averaging 28 points and 13 rebounds. Most basketball experts agree that Thomas would have gone directly to the NBA out of high school prior to the new draft rules. Van Coleman is one of the scouts who has Thomas ranked No. 1 nationally in his class.
