[edit] Sugatism:The early Southeast Coast Religion

Sugatism: The early southeast coast religion

There are many religions in the world today, but there is an ancient one that is belived to have contributed to religions such as christianity. The religion "Sugatism" originated in the Tazmanian Islands on the southeast of Australia, but only lasted for approximately 200 years(mid 1700's-mid 1900's). Sugatism is based on the morals of the society and on the belief that as long as you resolve yourself by the end of the day you shall be sent to the land of god. Since this religion was only around for about 200 years, the exact elaboration on the land of god was never recorded. The religion was upheld by god and their book, The Quentiple, and was believed to have severe persection if any of the Quentiple laws were broken. The Quentiple had 5 laws that the people were bound by these translated terms:

1.Do not worship any other Idols or Gods, Sugato is the only one. 2.To do wrong in your own society is a way to miss out on the ride to the land of god. 3.Please keep your hands and feet inside your body at all time, for you should live you live to the fullest. 4.If anyone murder's your family, it is only just to do the same to them. 5.Life is like seeing throught the eyes of god, what you see he see's.

These laws are what we would call today as Transcedentalism or christianity. In The Quentiple, the people of the land below god's land are in the property of the jester. The jester is god's assistant and reporter to god. (Reeds)
As these chants were uttered the people would devour raw kangaroo meat. Of all the meat eating the villagers were subjust to long lives usually ending at about 9 years. The subjects usually died from heart attacks. (Reeds)

It is believed that some of the values from Sugatism has been attributed to Christianity and Catholism. Do not follow another god or idol, and that in the end the people resolve their problems, all of Sugatism is based on the people in the societies doin their jobs to allow god to rest and put his feet up. To honor their god the Tazmanian people would involve themselve in rituals. These ritual sites involved dancing and the use of Bongo Drums. When these rituals were occuring such a spiritual atmosphere was created that the arouma has been said to be spread to the west coast of America. Upon experiancing the arouma of the spirituality magicians and other secret upholders would travel to Tazmania to encounter what makes up of these rituals. What the magicians observed was that the Tazmanian people would chant 4 lines to appreciate their god.

HERE WE TALK TO GOD, HE IS IN US CAN YOU HEAR US GOD? GOD CAN HEAR US NOW SAY HERE WE TALK TO GOD, HE IS IN US

The people were peace loving people, only killing animals for food and abiding to all laws and morals of their religion to provide for each other a better lifestyle. The land of God being the prize of a good life, emphasized by the details on in the Quentiple. Similar to the Pearly Gates, the Tazmanians had Red Colums surrounded by trees when once inside the person would be extremely blessed and treated like a god. (Whether)

Not much is known of Sugatism or of its complete origions and history, but from what we do know, we can use to assume detail's. Interesting it is how such a small and short lived religion could have been a part of so many others, without being exposed to them.

Summary

Professor Suri's primary interest is quick-response manufacturing. This involves reducing the time to introduce new products to market, as well as the time to manufacture and deliver existing products. He is director of the Center for Quick Response Manufacturing, a joint venture between the university and a number of area firms. A second interest involves development of analytical models of manufacturing systems. His earlier work in this area resulted in the "rapid modeling technique" which is used by many companies and universities for manufacturing systems analysis. This technique was also used by the World Bank to evaluate the impact of alternative technologies on industries in developing countries.

A third area of his research is new strategies for material control in manufacturing systems. Lean manufacturing strategies, along with Kanban and flow methods, do not work well in systems with high mix or custom engineered products. Dr. Suri has developed a new material control strategy called POLCA which is better suited to these environments. His ongoing research involves partnering with manufacturing companies in implementing POLCA on the shop floor, as well as using analysis methods to investigate the performance properties of POLCA in different situations.

Professor Suri is also director of the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Program, an interdisciplinary master of science program in the College of Engineering, with courses in engineering and management subjects.

[edit] Park Ji-won

Park Ji-won (1737-1805): South Korea's Joseon Dynasty scholar, writer and philosopher known for his innovative ideas about the then noble class, called yangban. He wrote stories stories ridiculing the idle, unproductive and pretentious ways of life of the yangban, and one of his representative short stories is "Yangbanjeon" (The Story of the Aristocrats), which satirizes nobility who unjustly impose upon commoners. It involves an upstart of low birth who buys the title of a noble, but when he hears the grossly unreasonable responsibilities and inhumanely unjust privileges, he renounces it again. In this short story, Park was voicing his strong approval of the ineffectual class system.

[edit] Cool Cities

The "Cool Cities" Initiative is a program of the State of Michigan, started by Gov. Jennifer Granholm in June, 2003. The program offers grants to cities that propose projects to improve the city's image and appeal to workers and companies. Several cities in Michigan have received grants for these projects, including Lansing, Midland, East Lansing, and many others.

The program is intended to encourage economic development, following the ideas expressed by Dr. Richard Florida in his book, "The Rise of the Creative Class". The basic thesis is that engaging, vibrant cities and communities will attract knowledge workers and creative professionals, who will improve the economic prospects of the area.

As Michigan has recently (2007) suffered from high unemployment due to loss of manufacturing jobs, the Cool Cities Initiative is intended to reverse negative economic trends and improve the diversity and stability of the state's economy.

[edit] Yamato: A Rage in Heaven

[edit] Yamato: A Rage in Heaven

Yamato: A Rage in Heaven is a military science fiction novel, written in 1990 by Ken Kato, who dedicated it to fellow novelist (and filmmaker) James Clavell. Kato wrote a sequel, Yamato 2: The Way of the Warrior, two years later; it takes place one decade after A Rage in Heaven ends.

Set in the 25th Century, the novels chronicle an epic struggle between two warring galactic powers: a future America; and an imperialistic, tyrannical Japan (the "Yamato" of the title). The Way of the Warrior adds a third player to this power struggle: Xanadu, also known as China.

The hardcover editions of both novels were published in a single volume; the paperback editions, however, were each published in a set of two volumes. The publisher was Questar Science Fiction, a division of Warner Books.

[edit] Cast

[edit] Four Traders

  • Ellis Straker…Trader captain, grade-one psi-talent and astrogator. Born A.D. 2396; this makes him 25 years of age at the novel’s opening. Appointed commander of the nexus ship Dwight D. Eisenhower, A.D. 2421. Cruising in quest of profit in the disputed region of Known Space between Yamato and Amerika called the Neutral Zone.
  • Duval Straker…Chaos theorist and weapons engineer. Ellis Straker’s brother, younger by two years, graduate of RISC. [edit] Synopsis

An Edict has been proclaimed, under which principal Earth cultures have been apportioned specific Sectors of Known Space, following the Great Diaspora beginning approximately A.D. 2100.

Yamato is one of the original twelve Sectors. It is occupied by the cultural and linguistic traditions of Japan. It is bordered: by the Sector of Xanadu, which is occupied by the cultural and linguistic traditions of China; and by the Neutral Zone. Yamato contains many thousands of star systems, hundred of which are inhabited. They are organized into four Quadrants. More than sixty systems contain very well-developed planets of a billion or more inhabitants. The Sector capital world is Kyoto; the form of government is a monarchy, headed by the Emperor, who is conventionally held to be divine—although much actual power now resides in the office of Shogun.

Yamato has been effectively closed to the citizens of other Sectors for many years: by the creation of high-price conditions; by the imposition of anti-immigration laws; and by bans on the sale of planetary land to foreign citizens or legal entities; then later by physical closure of the Sector so that no Yamato citizen is permitted to leave, and no outsider can gain entry. De facto annexation of the Neutral Zone has been an unstated but primary policy of Yamato’s government since the start of the Kanei reign era (that of God-Emperor Mutsuhito).

As A Rage in Heaven opens, it is now the 20th year of Kanei, A.D. 2421.

Somewhere in the Neutral Zone, late Amerikan Captain Ayrton Rodrigo—who was due to retire following this voyage—is buried on the remote world of Tanimbar, halfway between the Yamato Boundary and Liberty: Amerika’s Sector capital world, with its capital city of Lincoln. Seven weeks ago, Rodrigo was shot with a flame-blaster by a sniper of the rikugun: Yamato’s black-uniformed military. Fellow Captain ELLIS STRAKER vows to avenge Rodrigo’s death. Their flotilla has been forced to detour because of a psi-tempest, which kept them from jumping directly back to Liberty. The Neutral Zone is a region where fierce psionic storms buffet the fabric of space-time, making it impossible for psi-navigators to predict passage through the region. Ergo, the Neutral Zone is part of Yamato because no other Sector saw any need to annex it. The expedition’s leader, COMMODORE JOSIAH “JOS” HAWKEN, runs the Thomas Jefferson: his seven-thousand-ton flagship. Hawken’s surviving captains are HELENE DI BARRIO, HAMPTON, GENEVA, JOHN OUJUKU, and Ellis.

Fifty days ago, Hawken and his fellow traders landed on the world of Palawan, and sought profit from the settlers of the Neutral Zone. Their wares were shunned, not because the goods weren’t desired, but due to fear of the kempei (Yamato secret police). The next day, the rikugun came. Hawken and the Traders greeted them with discipline, self-control and impeccable manners. Then Rodrigo was shot without provocation, and the other Traders fled, leaving their sale items behind. Already under heavy fire, the Traders were caught by a raging psi-storm just as they were approaching the nexus that would have taken them back to Liberty. The storm nearly killed the human psi-astrogators manning the Trader ships, afflicting them all with severe epileptic seizures. The Traders were separated for a week and then regrouped, still lost in the Neutral Zone.

After Rodrigo’s death, Ellis is given command of the nexus ship Dwight D. Eisenhower. Within three voyages (to the worlds of Buru, Ceram, Halmahera and Sula), Hawken has established a lucrative trade in the Neutral Zone…although his presence there is illegal because he’s an unlicensed (by Yamato) merchant. Trading (machinery, manufactures, genetic stock, et al) with the Amerikans helps the colonists avoid Yamato’s crippling shizo (sales tax). But now the days of peaceful trading (without interference, double-dealing, beam-weapons, or skirmishes with the rikugun) are over. Hawken cannot move at all in the Neutral Zone except by coming in force...

[edit] Scratch test

The scratch test is a simple method of testing whether a coating has sufficient adhesion to the substrate.

In the scratch test a Rockwell diamond tip is scratched across the coated surface at a constant velocity whilst a load is applied at a constant rate. The diamond creates stress between the coating and the substrate resulting in delamination or chipping of the coating. The load at which the first sign failure of the coating occurs is termed the critical load, Lc.

A scratch tester will have one or more method of detecting coating failure such as a load cell that measures friction, an acoustic emission monitor or simply an optical microscope.

The scratch test can be used to quantify coating adhesion on many substrate types such as metal alloys, semiconductors, or glass but is usually used on coated substrates with a hardness >54 HRC.

Famed for being completely free to play, it boasted over 16,000 unique users at its peak.

Started as a rebellion to The Alien Adoption Agency (as it became pay-to-play) it was worked on day and night endlessly for almost 2 years.

The three men behind the game (Chris Cameron, Darren Cassidy and Kevin Dougans) all played a major part in the success of the game and to this day remain close friends and are always exchanging ideas for other projects around although time isn't in their favor.

During the games three year presence the direction of the game, software of the game, design of the game and even the players of the game differed immensely.

The three 16-year-old Scottish men behind the game soon had different ideas and different schedules which lead ultimately to Kevin Dougans taking charge of the game development and management.

Darren ("DonGio") and Chris ("DonRaa") kept their education and game time on a neutral balance (both at university in Scotland, now) where as Kevin ("DonGans") pretty much dropped out of school to work on the game full time after it had been around for around 1 year.

Towards the end of its life the game suffered a few server problems and a lot of data was lost and on one occasion (on New Years day) the whole game and data was lost with no backup.

IME UK Ltd & Kevin attempted to bring the game back to life from scratch, with a substantial financial backing but the project was doomed due to the amount of time it would have taken to redevelop the game.

The game won many awards and a quick google search of "ZydeIsland" will show you this and the amount of fans it did have.

Some reports say Zyde Island was the influence to other similar online text based games like CritticAge and Robowars.

There has always been rumor it may return some day...
