[edit] Transportation
Ash Grove is located on Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway's Kansas City-Springfield-Memphis mainline. Until 1980, the mainline was owned by the Frisco, and by the Burlington Northern from 1980 until the Santa Fe merger in 1994. Between 20 and 30 freight trains pass through the town each day; passenger trains stopped running in 1967. Ash Grove was once the southern terminus of the Kansas City, Clinton, and Springfield RR (Leaky Roof Route). This line was abandoned in 1934, though the short segment between Ash Grove and Phenix, 8 miles to the north, was operated until 1946 to serve a limestone quarry.
U.S. Highway 160, a two-lane route, passes through town. Interstate 44 and Historic Route 66, now Missouri Hwy. 266, run eight miles to the south.
