[edit] contested prod
I removed a prod tag from the page, not because I'm sure it was inappropriate, just that I feel there should be a discussion here first. The concern given with the prod was 'Planetary ephemerides are not encyclopaedic, and these are apparently the result of original research - see User_talk:Zonk43#.22Aspects.22' So it seems clear OR, but if a referenced source could be found can we save the info? Is it worth saving? I used it once... discuss, kind regards, sbandrews 11:11, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- First, information like this generated by amateurs should be treated cautiously. The amateur could have made some type of mistake or made some type of change to the calculation. Second, ephemeris information by itself is generally not encyclopedic because it does not convey any information other than raw numbers. On this basis, the article should be deleted. If the article is kept, then the data should be taken from a respected reference (possibly Sky & Telescope or an astronomical almanac), and inline references should be used to explicitly indicate the sources of the data. - looked up the conjunctions, they look ok, put in a ref. On the question as to whether this information is encyclopedic or not, this is a question I've seen come up time and time again, there must be some wiki policy page to guide us on the decision, I'll take a look, any pointers on this appreciated, thanks for your comment, regards, sbandrews 13:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
