Astroblemes are the scars (landforms and other geologic features) left on a planetary (or other celestial body) surface by the impact with another body from outer space, typically a meteor. They include impact craters from meteorites and other cosmic debris, as well as compaction shatter zones, and fallout material. Their impact and fallout zones may be round or lenticular, or even tear-drop shaped, and may be further eroded so that their original shape may only be inferred. They are distinct from impact craters in two regards. Impact craters on earth may result from terrestrial sources, such as on a battlefield; while astroblemes include the other associated landforms from impact, not just the craters.
