- Seems the original was a bit quote-heavy. As the text of the speech is now hosted at Wikisource:Atlanta Compromise, it made sense to trim this article down a bit, to me at least.

Unless, I have my history wrong, although BTW's speech was a major moment in civil rights in america, it was later criticized by intellectuals such as W.E.B. DuBois for being too lenient on segregation and jim crow. it wasnt radical enough... perhaps this issue should be addressed? see DuBois, The Souls of Black Folk (1903)
