August Kleinzahler

August Kleinzahler (born 1949) is a United States poet. He was born in 1949 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He went to the Horace Mann School, and then the University of Wisconsin. He dropped out of Wisconsin, but ended up at the University of Victoria in British Columbia where he took classes with Basil Bunting.
Possibly the most-used blurb quote regarding Kleinzahler's work is from Allen Ginsberg: "August Kleinzahler's verse line is always precise, concrete, intelligent and rare - that quality of 'chiseled' verse memorable in Basil Bunting's and Ezra Pound's work. A loner, a genius."
He is the author of ten books of poetry, most recently The Strange Hours Travelers Keep. Also one book of non-fiction, Cutty, One Rock (Low Characters and Strange Places, Gently Explained.)
