Autotopagnosia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Autotopagnosia - agnosia affecting the posture sense, characterized by inability to localize or orient correctly different parts of the body; the cause is usually a lesion in the parietal part of the posterior thalamic radiations. Called also body-image agnosia and somatotopagnosia. (Dorlands Medical Dictionary) The thalamic radiations connect the thalamus with the cortex via the internal capsule. Some authors have criticised the concept as a nonspecific concept - that is, they feel that this symptom is part of a wider symptom complex of anomia, or inability to name things in general - not just parts of the human body (Riv Patol Nerv Ment. 1976 Mar-Apr;97(2):94-114.[An experimental study of autotopagnosia (author's transl)[Article in Italian]Gainotti G, Caltagirone C, Carecchi A, Ibba A.)
