[edit] Establishment of Silsila-e-Azeemia
In July 1960, after receiving spiritual guidance from Muhammad, Hassan Ukhra Syed Muhammad Azeem Burkhiya, also known as Qalander Ba Ba Auliya, founded the Azeemia spiritual order. The goal of Azeemia is to enhance higher awareness through spiritual exercises like dhikrspiritual chanting, muraqbq meditation, breathing and others such spiritual awareness exercises. It encompasses both the spiritual sections viz. Spiritual Association (Salook) and the Raptness (Juzb).
Before his demise in 1979, Qalandar Baba designated Shaykh Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi as his spiritual heir. Sufi Master Azeemi,78 also known as baba ji in silsila-e-Azeemia, (as of 2006), is the current patriarch of the order. Outside the Sufi circle, he is considered by many outside Pakistan as the leading authority on Parapsychology and Meditation.
- It must be stressed here that traditional Sufi orders do not recognize Shaykhs that receive ijaza or authorization from a dream or other form of mystical experience. Rather, the traditional orders derive their authenticity from chains of authorization witnessed by others that go back generation by generation to Muhammad. This practice helps to prevent fraud.
