I've changed the opening to: "William Dalrymple (b. 1965 in Scotland) is a historian, travel writer and journalist."
It seems to me that formulation is fairly inarguable (famous last words). I don't think we should try to define the type of historian he is, whether popular or narrative, although we could find references for both of those depending on what stage of his career we reference. The other chap obviously thinks little of Dalrymple, but he's probably not familiar with how much original research went into Dalrymple's latest books. qp10qp 18:02, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
