[edit] General Information.
The Erisian branch of the Discordian faith was formed after the deaths of its main founding fathers and writers of the Principia Discordia, Kerry Thornley and Greg Hill. This meant that without guidance from the original founders, a new group should be created to allow more of a neutral and interspective view on Discordianism. The creation and establishment of Erisism took place in 1997 and became more popular in 1998 with the unfortunate death of Kerry Thornley. For the next six years, the organization ran like a private club, similar to the Stonecutters or the Buffs, until its' members decided to expand it. With some members relocating to other areas of England, they established the practice of creating their own churches. A small number did this.
There are four registered churches throughout the United Kingdom; their buildings have become regional headquarters their respective counties. Other churches are merely lay churches and are only used for meetings. Both Erisism and Discordianism are viewed by many as entirely fictitious, and that belief in Eris is merely a joke or eccecentricity.
[edit] Differences with Discordianism
Erisism is a philosophical and religious theory which has strong links to Discordianism in its broader aspects but is distinctively distant with the other in other deeper aspects. Whilst Discordianism is more closely affiliated with the more practical aspects of the religion (the duties of the Discordian is to remove the common person or Greyface for their incorrectly and self imposed idea of living in an ordered and so structured reality at least for at least a short period of time through actual actions. See also Operation Mindfuck for more information.) whilst Erisism is the more spiritual aspect of the same group of religious suggestions and ideas.
[edit] The Erisian Lifestyle
Erisism, in its purest form would have the Erisian constantly deep in thought and mental internal discussion about the world and how it is stated by Eris and asking her help by her prophecies through the pineal gland Most of the time this deep thought is on how to best misalign others from their 'safer' version of reality.
This (for the Erisian) is a path to a deep and meaningful meditation can lead to the Erisian to inversely mistakenly up a life of Quietism, in which the practitioner will never act as they are always meditating upon what is the right thing to do.
It is in fact true that the devout Erisian will lead a life of deep contemplation but it does not necessarily follow that the Erisian will fall deep into contemplative isolation away from the common man because they would never truly be accepted by those who do not believe in Discordianism. This is why the Erisian tends to leave the public eye to search for what the Erisian believes is the correct philosophical path elsewhere. The Discordian is the more practical arm of the Eris faith and so it is they who pull the pranks, take part in Operation Mindfuck and other such actual measures to remove the person from reality and it is the Erisian whose job it is to consult with Eris totally internally what is the best for the world. It is very unlikely that the Erisian is ever urged into action, feeling that they should rather consult and meditate upon the matters at hand.
[edit] Erisian Leadership and the High Erisians
The Erisians, having such a great understand of the universe and how everything should be coupled with having achieved the most solid and constant communication with the goddess Eris through their pineal gland then partake in a ceremony known only as the Erisian Ascension of which only the most partial information have been revealed by the Blessed Ones who have partook in the act. After the sacred rite, the Erisian takes the title of Blessed One and joins the other High Erisians who rule over the whole church of Eris and Discordia combined. The High Erisians are viewed as being of the direct voice of Eris and so holds a great weight in any discussions concerning Eris or other Discordians. It is worthy of note that the POEE has no power or rule over the High Erisians, however a level of respect exists between the two leaderships.
[edit] High Erisian Meetings.
The meetings of the High Erisians are not at random like most of the Discordian meetings are but are only called when five of their number request for a meeting. The locations of these meetings are always kept secret to everyone else in the organisation; whether it is the POEE or any of the lesser Erisians and so only those who should be at the meeting place are able to attend.
[edit] Levels of Secrecy within the Erisian Movement.
It may seem that the Erisians are a secretive organisation and in a sense that is true when concerning the highest levels of the group with information about the High Erisians but otherwise the Erisians are open about the information that they give.
It is not permitted to give any information about any of the High Erisians as that would be counter-productive to the faith as it would allow for those with the most power to be open to corruption and bribery and Eris would not be happy with this state of affairs. The one exception for this rule is the High Erisian in charge of external affairs; who is currently (at time of writing in 2004) to be Blessed One WiseGuy H.E.C.
It can be quite difficult to contact even the External Affairs High Erisian; as it is said that to be in line with the Erisian philosophy he makes himself unavailable for random periods of time.
[edit] Erisian Armageddon and Rebirth.
There are confirmed Erisian beliefs that at a certain time in the future; there will finally be more discord in the world then order. When this becomes the case, then it will be the time that Eris rips through the order matrix of the world which has been limiting her true power and returns to her world that she created. She will obliterate all that does not conform with her teachings and so the survivors will live in a Erisian paradise beside Eris herself.
