Bahr al-Arab
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Literally translated "River of the Arabs", and also known as Kiir river, Bahr al-Arab is a river which flows through the southwest of Sudan. The river is approximately 800 kilometres long and flows with the confluence of the Jur River into the Bahr al-Ghazal river, which in turn flows into the White Nile. Its source is Ngaja mountain in the Bongo massif, close to the border of the Central African Republic and flows largely through the Darfur region. Some of its tributaries are the Shalleikha, Lol, Kyom, Jur and Wadi Ibra. The river floods in the summer and is not navigable. The Bahr al-Arab river forms, roughly, the western-side border between north and south Sudan.
