Baldios (宇宙戦士 バルディオス Uchū Senshi Baldios?) is a super robot anime series produced by Toei in the 1980s, which has a strong environmental theme. Many of the pivotal episodes were joined and released as a "movie" in the United States as "Space Warriors: Battle for Earth Station S/1." The name of the Baldios mecha was unchanged, although it played a surprisingly small part in the movie that was created. In Cuba, another feature film version of Baldios was released in theaters, including much of the bloodshed that had been excised from the American version, under the name of Yaltus.
[edit] Story
In the distant future, another world has been badly polluted. Just a a scientist finds a way to clean up the planet, the followers of a military fanatic invade his laboratory and destroy his work. The scientist's son is launched into space along with 100,000 people in a massive spaceship by the general, but are transported to Earth by a time warp. The son joins a military organization which uses his spaceship as part of a robot called Baldios which fights off the general's attempts to take over Earth for his people. However, as another member of their race he is not trusted by the people of Earth. As the series progresses, the polar ice caps are melted by the general and after a horrific battle the world is colored red by pollution. The escapees from the other world realize they are actually people from Earth's future. In the end, the general escapes to find another world for his people to inhabit.
[edit] Trivia
- One of the characters in Baldios, the emperor of S-1, became the subject of an internet meme on the Futaba Channel image boards; anonymous users in the two-dimensional image board would photomanipulare the emperor's head in a variety of ways via Photoshop.
