Ball Badminton is a type of racquet sport, very similar to badminton, popular in some parts of South India.
Instead of the shuttlecock, a ball made of wool like material is used. (Usually colored yellow or orange). Ball badminton is a team sport, with 5 people on each side. Wooden racquets are used to play this sport.

This game originated in Tanjore in Tamil Nadu. The game became very famous as it had the interest of the then Maharaja of Tanjore. It attracted many players from south India and is a very familiar game in south India as cricket. This game was purely played by the rural boys as it was easily affordable at those days. This game attracted a huge number of students in south India that ball badminton federation was formed in 1961. Indian athletic federation, Indian hockey federation and ball badminton federation of India first formed the Indian olympic association.it gradually spread to Andhra Pradesh and became very familiar there. The first national championship was conducted at Hyderabad in 1956. It was later introduced to junior and sub-junior level.
The game has flourished well on south India in later 1970s by the Ball Badminton Ball manufacturer Mr. Natrajan, proprietor of J.K.INDUSTRIES.

The game is played by 5 players on one side and is a team game with 5 extras. one single court measures 40 =20 feet and the total measurement comes to 80 ft length=20 ft in width. The net is a cotton net used at a height of 6 feet at all positions. The service is made from right half of the court where the opponent receives it at the other right half of their court and if succeeded in a point should be moved to left half of the court as in tennis. All the 5 players are allowed to serve before side changes. Only the serving team gets the point whereas opponent takes the advantage of cutting the service hand. The game is played for 29 points with 3 court changes at 8,15,22 points. Server is not allowed to serve from above the waist height. Server is not allowed to lift his foot above ground contact. 3 changes are allowed for a single game. The match is played at best of five basis.

Ball badminton has many arjuna awardees as rajaraman of Indian railways. sam christy das of Kerala. khaleel of Tamil Nadu and there are also hundreds of players from railways and also major porters, and also from banks sports board of India including canara bank, syndicate bank, Indian overseas bank. ball badminton game was brought to limelight by the then secretary of the federation shri nayar of kerala. he was well associated then by shri h.chandrashekar of karnataka and muniswami of Tamil Nadu and shri k k v k raju of andhra pradesh. shri nissar ahmed of railways achieved many star of India awards and was the reason for railways to win majority of national championships. the game of ball badminton had many great personalities who has made this game popular like rajkumar, chenti, rafique, mahammed illiaz, dhruva kumar, putta raju, sathik Hussain, Balaji, veeramani and many more players.
